How to find your purpose as a creator on Twitter / X
Creators with a purpose don't just quit
I found purpose
My friend, you want to find your purpose.
I understand, purpose is important. It is your calling, so today I will share my story about purpose. And some self-reflection question you can journal about to get clear on your purpose. Acting on your purpose on Twitter will be in the last section.
Now I did not have a purpose up until 6 months ago.
The first 16 years of my life I lived on autopilot. Then I jumped out of my comfort zone (that had a purpose, to improve my social skills). And then I had the purpose of improving myself.
To becoming the best version of myself.
So let's dig into it:
The self improvement junkie
I was 17 when I started self improvement.
At this point, my purpose was to become the best version of myself. This was a goal, and you can say it was a purpose also. Although it was nothing noble.
This lasted for about six months, from the start of last summer until the end of 2022.
So I started meditating, journaling and working out. And establishing a morning routine and everything. And cut out gaming.
I started to watch a LOT of self improvement on YouTube like Hamza and Clark Kegley. I started reading books like "The Six Pillars of Self Esteem".
And it was a good 6 months. I was on the top of the world, peaking. But aside from improving myself, I did not have a greater purpose. I was lacking that deeper meaning in life.
I was a self improvement junkie you could say.
The Twitter creator
But then in December 2022, I discovered the man himself, Dan Koe.
And this man gave me purpose. He opened my eyes to the world of creators on Twitter. And I did the only thing possible to me, I joined them.
But for 3 months, I was setting up a website (it was a form of procrastination) instead of being active on Twitter.
I was writing a useful blog, but no one knew about it. Only my family. And it was in a different niche. It was about helping private tutors become better. Because at the time, I was a private tutor myself.
But as said, I was wasting time.
Brainwashing myself that this blog was somehow good, somehow gonna make it. And I also started on Twitter in February. Tweeting into the void.
I wanted to find others like me, but that did not happen. They were all consumers, I only found a few creators who were also teachers. So I procrastinated, I felt bad trying to look for creators. Because I couldn't find them.
And then I did it.
I switched niche, and found other creators like myself. And yeah, this happened in May. So I wasted the first 5 months of the year. But I like to think that it all lead up to the moment in May. But if I had started out with no website, and in the self improvement niche…
Yeah, then I would have started on Twitter in February FOR REAL, and made progress.
So what was the point of all this storytelling?
Well, the point is that if you have this feeling like I did of something lacking in your life. You lack meaning, some deeper purpose, something to dedicate yourself to. Could be a passion, a dream that stays a dream.
But you feel like you could have a greater purpose, and you don't currently have it.
Then be aware of this feeling, and make a change.
And I will show you how to do that right now.
Self-awareness to find your purpose
Now one way to find your purpose is to solve a problem.
When I was self improving in my first 6 months, I was solving problems for myself. I was lacking self-esteem and I had horrible mental health.
This self improving solved these 2 problems along with a lot of other problems for myself. And since I solved the problems for myself, I can help others solve them too ;)
So this has lead to my purpose being to help others solve their mental health problems. Solving problems in the world and for others is a good way to find your purpose.
Now we gotta have some more self-awareness. So like I solved my own problems, we will focus on that to start off:
What problems have I solved for myself? What transformation have I seen the last 2 years?
Journal about these questions. As said for me, it was going from a gaming addict with bad mental health to self improvement.
But what if you have not seen any transformation or solved any problems for yourself? Then reflect about what problems you DO want to solve for yourself. What is lacking in your life? What problems do you have? Where do you want to improve?
Then you can solve these problems, and help others while doing it.
So once you have found what problem you want to help people with, it's time to act on it.
Acting on your purpose
Alright, so there is a few ways you can actually help people overcome this problem. I am currently doing 3 things:
1. Helping with a newsletter
2. Helping with courses / digital products
3. Helping with 1:1 coaching / consulting
I just released my first digital product to help burnt out creators on Twitter achieve better mental health. And I am figuring out the 1:1 coaching.
So ask yourself: how can I bring purpose into my work? Into Twitter?
You might use the same ways as I do, and that is fine. But you see, I am not gonna quit Twitter because I have this purpose. It is too noble of a mission to just stop. So I can recommend finding your purpose too.
And make sure you connect your purpose with a "why" or multiple of them. This why can be because of your friends, family or for society. Anything really goes.
Then you want to find people on Twitter that need help.
You can also offer to help people for free. This is the best way in the beginning. I can recommend helping your friends out first, because it is easier when you are friends with them. Then they can’t resist your help ;)
Now go find your purpose and have a breath taking day!
